5 Ways To Beautify Your Garden For Winter
With the first official snowstorm of the year under our belts in New England, it is timely as ever to take a look at the best ways to beautify your winter garden. See how you can use a fresh coat of winter snow to your advantage with key aspects of what makes a winter garden truly majestic. And be sure to explore our Estate Elements collection, filled with hundreds of unique pieces to add beauty, charm, and life to your outdoor space during any season.
1. Greenery & Pops of Color
Adding beautiful deep green colors of the winter months are essential to create a lively look to your garden. Don’t settle for the brown tones of winter and empty branches, when you can create beautiful pathways of boxwood bushes or add festive garland along your garden fence or a stone wall. Also consider adding a pop of color to bring out beautiful contrast against a snowy background. For long-term planning, consider adding plants to your garden that will also thrive during the winter season, such as Camellias, Japanese Yew, Holly, or Winter Jasmine.

2. Decorative Urns
Urns and planters are one of the basic elements of a luxurious garden during the spring and summer, but during the winter season they can become quite a focal point with a little DIY. Rather than having your urns and planters sit empty, use pine branches, holly, and pinecones to create a beautiful arrangement that will thrive in the colder months of winter. You can even add a splash or red by adding ornaments and natural berries. A beautiful and festive arrangement or two can easily fill an empty space and create visual interest in the garden until spring arrives.

3. Statuary as a Focal Point
You can add statuary to your garden to provide a focal point in every season, but it is especially breathtaking during the wintertime! Statuary helps add character and liveliness to gardens even during the coldest and barest of winters. Some of the most breathtaking views of statuary are during or right after snowfall, as they add character and beauty among a world covered in white snow.

4. Lights!
Add lights and spotlights so you can still enjoy your garden after dark during the early sunsets we have this time of year. Lights will surely highlight the beautiful statuary, fountains, and planters you have in your garden and let you enjoy the space during the dramatic snow-covered months of winter. An added bonus is the view during snowfall!

5. Winterizing Your Ornaments
Lastly, remember to take proper care of your garden ornaments during the winter season. That means taking proper measures to clean out and winterize urns and planters, drain any water from your birdbaths and fountains, and store away any furniture or pieces that cannot hold out in freezing temperatures. While all of our outdoor furniture and cast stone statuary is safe to leave outdoors all year in all climates, we recommend keeping your furniture clean and ready for the spring with our protective furniture covers.
